On Wednesday, July 8th, 2015 surrounded by family and friends, Donel “Donnie” Croft Black passed away at home as per his wishes. Born August of 1944, he was the son of the late Cecil and Helen (Croft) Black.
Donnie is survived by his remarkable wife of 47 years Wanda (Allaby); his children Cindy Black, Cst. Mike Black (Shawna) and Maggie Englehart (Al); his most precious gifts, his grandchildren Madalyn, Gabriella, Karson, Robert (Michelle) and Stephanie; great-grandchildren his buddy Sheldon, Brody, Brittany and Rylan; also left to mourn his only remaining sibling Earle Black (Paulette); brother-in-law David Bamford; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special feline companion “Baby”.
Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his special mother Muriel Black; sister Karen Bamford and brother Ralph Black.
Donnie was employed by the Dry Dock for 35 years and his love of boats went beyond work.
He was an avid baseball fan loving the old Montreal Expos and the Toronto Blue Jays and most recently took a liking to the Toronto Raptors and the New England Patriots. One of his favorite daily rituals, up until he became too sick, was to go to Tim Hortons twice a day with all of the wonderful friends that he made over the last ten years.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Friday, July 10th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held from the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 2487 Hwy 111 in St. Martins on Monday, July 13th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mosher Hill Cemetery.
Donations in Donnie’s memory can be made to the New Brunswick Lung Association, IWK, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donors’ choice.
