Edward Luchenski

Luchenski, Edward Raymond age 84 of Swift Current, Saskatchewan passed away on Saturday July 4th at the Cypress Regional Hospital. The funeral service for Edward was held at 11:00am, Thursday July 9th at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Parish with Father Richard Jasiak officiating. The pianist was Marlene Dolter and the Psalmist was Arnold Schroeder. The Reading and Intention were given by Allison Luchenski and Rhett Evjen. A solo was sung by Nona McMillian (Luchenski). Honorary Pallbearers were members of the A.C.T. Club and all who shared in Ed's life. The interment service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Edward is survived and lovingly remembered by wife Barbara, his six children Ione (Richard), Zelda (Rob), Nona, Lana (Chris), Wayne (Genna) and Andrea (Darren), seven grandchildren Jeremy, Jody, Meghan, Allison, Emily, Rhett and Reese, great grandchildren Jade and Koby, brother Tom (Marlene) and sister Bernice. He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Thomas Joseph Luchenski and mother Eileen Eleanor Burke. Edward was born and raised in Creelman Saskatchewan where he met his first wife Shirley Mae and had three daughters. He eventually settled and spent the last fifty years in Swift Current where he owned and operated a transmission repair business and raised his three youngest children along with second wife Barbara whom he married in 1964. As a teenager, Ed was a talented baseball and hockey player, and eventually became an avid outdoorsman where he developed a love for hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Bow hunting was his passion: Ed participated in the Saskatchewan Summer games in 1976 and won numerous archery awards over the years. He was recently honoured as one of the six founding members of the Saskatchewan Bow Hunters Association. He loved spending time at Cypress Hills Provincial Park at the family cabin as well as the sand hills on the Minor ranch by Cabri. After retiring from work full time, many of his days were spent in his shop working on projects for the church, local businesses, friends and family. He was well known for his craftsmanship and talent for building or fixing anything, making homemade chokecherry wine, salsa, and clam chowder.
