John English, a long-time resident of Swift Current, passed away peacefully on Sunday, 21 June, at the Cypress Regional Hospital. John was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Alma of Swift Current, his brother Richard (Dick) and his daughter Valerie.
John was born in Swift Current and lived in Swift Current until he joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Edmonton for a tour of duty. He returned to his home town following his lengthy career with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP Rail), where he worked for several years in their Revelstoke, B.C. subdivision office and their Calgary, Alberta corporate headquarters office in a management position.
In his retirement years, John enjoyed working in his garden, followed his passion for photography (he was a photographer with the CPR in Revelstoke, and worked alongside Nicholas Morant), enhoyed art work and, most of all, loved spending time with his dog Maggie and enjoyed walks with his best friend. John was a quiet reserved man with an interesting sense of humor and a kindness to strangers.
