REID, JAMES MALCOLM (Maj. Ret'd)
The death of James "Jamie" Malcolm Reid of Fredericton occurred on July 18th, 2015 at the Veteran's Health Unit. Born March 21st, 1929, he was the son of the late Ivan and Gladys (Allaby) Reid and husband to Edith Reid.
Jamie joined the Canadian Military in 1950 and served in Korea in 1951 with the 2nd Battalion PPCLI. On return to Canada, he served in a variety of operational tours including Chief Instructor at the Airborne (Parachute) School in Rivers, Manitoba, two UN tours, one in Cyprus and one in Israel as a Military Observer. He retired in 1978 with rank of Major. In retirement, he joined the NB Provincial Government in the Department of Supply and Services. Jamie left civil service in 1991 and began a series of volunteer activities in Fredericton as well as enjoying hobbies such as curling and cycling.
Jamie is survived by his wife, Edith; his daughter, Leslie Reid (Jennifer) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Heather, Tyler, Geneva and Alex; brothers, Ian Reid (Betty) of Ottawa, ON, Peter Reid (Lil) of Norton, NB and William Reid of White Court, AB; sisters, Muriel Tucker (Charles) of Hampton, NB, Susan Sharpe (Dawn) of Calgary, AB and Alberta Jamer (Murray) of Fredericton, NB.
He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Kate Reid; his brothers, Edwin and Robert and his sisters, Margaret McKenna, Elizabeth Brown, Nancy Watters and Mary Reid.
The family will receive visitors at McAdam's Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21st, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4 will hold a tribute at 2:00 pm. A memorial service will be held immediately following in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel at 4:00 pm. The Rev. Canon Jon Lownds will officiate. Interment will be in the Scotchtown Cemetery, Douglas Harbour at a later date.
