Elizabeth Virginia (Morrison) Dowling

Elizabeth Virginia ‘Virgy’ Dowling (nee Morrison) passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2015, at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary, Alta. at the age of 93 years.
Virgy was born in Sydney Oct. 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Kathleen (MacKinnon) Morrison.
Virgy is survived by her son Dennis Dowling (Debbie McCaffrey) of Calgary Alta.; her sister Sr. Teresa Morrison CND of Baddeck, N.S. and her brother David Morrison (Geneva) of Hamilton, Ont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Dowling (Edward Bays), great-granddaughters, Anna and Bria of Kimberley, B.C.; Katie Dowling (Robert Halliday) and great-grandson Tyson of Annapolis Valley, N.S.; Amy Dowling of Sydney N.S.; Desiree (Don) Bruno, great-grandchildren Nya and Dominic of Calgary, Alta., and Tyrel Roe of High Prairie, Alta.; her daughter by choice Sadie (Sally) Gillis of Sydney, N.S., her sister-in-law Theresa (Ralph) Morrison of Dartmouth, N.S. and other numerous relatives.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis Vincent Dowling (1951), son Brian A. Dowling, sisters, Sr. Mary C. Morrison CND and Sr. Kathleen Morrison (Martyrs), her brothers, Patrick (Lindy), Ramsay, Ralph and John and sisters-in-law, Tessie (Ramsey) Morrison, Barbara (Lindy) Morrison, and Marilyn (John) Morrison.
After graduation from Mount St. Bernard College in Antigonish she began working for Trans Canada Airlines (now known as Air Canada) until her retirement in 1985.
Virgy enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She travelled all over the world throughout her career in the airline industry and even more so in her retirement years.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to her special care giver Chona Galivo of Signature Care and the staff at Chinook Care Centre for the excellent care she received while she resided there. We would also like to thank Father Bob of St. Mary's Cathedral, Calgary AB who administered the sacrament for the sick.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
A celebration of her life will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment to take place at St. Theresa’s Cemetery, Sydney.
