It is with sadness we announce the passing of James 'Jim' Barry on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at the New Waterford Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John 'Jack' and Sarah Jane (Nearing) Barry.
Jim served in the army for a while and later went on to work at No. 16 Colliery. After leaving the coal mine he worked as a self employed mechanic. He also drove trucks for Al Bernick. Jim was a man who could put his hand to anything and fix it. He was a great singer and mouth organ player; he loved to sing all the oldies. You would see him everyday sitting in his truck at Tim Hortons with his fiddle music blaring.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Martha Ropek, son, John (Celia), New Waterford, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, all of Toronto, nieces, nephews, brothers, Mike, Will and sisters, Vange, Martha, all of Toronto.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife, the former Annie Watkins in 1946, companion of 50 years, Jean Carr of Dominion, sisters, Theresa, Evelyn, Margaret, brothers, Maynard and Gray.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Ray Huntley is Thursday, 11 a.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith St., New Waterford followed by interment in St. Agnes Cemetery.
