THEAL, GEORGE ALEXANDER
1932 – 2015
George Theal, 83, of Moncton , passed away at Briarlea Seniors Home on Saturday, July 18, 2015. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late John and Hilda (Goldsmith) Theal.
He was employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia for several years after graduating high school. George then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for twenty-four years in both the R.C.A.F and the Canadian Armed Forces. After release from the service, he served an additional thirteen years as a Civilian Officer with the Department of National Defence. Three years of his service were in Europe.
George was a member of St. John’s United Church and served on both the Stewards and Renovations Committees. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Acacia Lodge #49 F. & A.M. and Order of the Eastern Star, Frank H. Tingley Chapter #5 and Fidelity Chapter # 36. George was a past member of the Luxor Shriners Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Saint John. He was a past member of the NB Genealogical Society South and enjoyed gardening and travelling.
George was predeceased by his first wife, Olga (Forsyth), of 31 years and his second wife, Hilda (Chalmers) Brown-Theal of 23 years.
He is survived by one son, Gary (Cathy) Theal of Ottawa, ON; three step-children, Sharon (Doug) French of Moncton, Gary (Mona) Brown of Riverview and Katheryn (Mark) McGrath of Bedford, NS; as well as grandchildren on both sides. Loving, giving, devoted husband, father and friend, he was a proud servant and benevolent to his community.
The family would like to thank the Staff of The Briarlea for the care and compassion shown to George during his stay.
In keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours. Frank H. Tingley No. 5, O.E.S Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm followed by Acacia Lodge #49, F. & A.M. Masonic Service at 1:15pm at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995). A Service to celebrate George’s life will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 1:30 pm at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Steve Berube officiating. Reception will follow in the Funeral Home Reception Center. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery.
Donations in George’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
