Dorothy Frances Rozeluk Dorothy Frances Rozeluk

Born In: Whitney Pier

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: June 3rd, 2015

Dorothy Frances Rozeluk passed away June 3, 2015, at the age of 84 after a 3 year courageous life with cancer. She faced her challenge as she lived; head on, with grace, tenacity and faith.
She grew up in a vibrant Whitney Pier in Cape Breton. Leaving school to help support her family, she never lost her love of learning. Working at Woolworth's and then for decades at the Royal Bank, she completed her high school, her banking diplomas and her BBA; all while working full time, raising two daughters, helping those in need and working to help out in Rozeluk's Grocery, the family business. She completed her banking career in loans and tells stories of giving loans to those who needed them, but whose only collateral was their promise to Dorothy not to default. Handing over the loan papers to her boss Mom would say "This one is from the heart." No one ever defaulted on their loan. That was mom, always the first and last to help, and always the first to cook, bake and nourish the masses!
She was an incredible artist, singer, a devout Catholic — a member of Our Lady of Fatima and St. Mary's Polish Church Choirs and CWL and recently St Anthony’s parish in Berwick.
Moving to Berwick, during her illness, meant selling her home and leaving precious Cape Breton. Although difficult, she touched a whole new group of people in the Annapolis Valley. They too would experience the Love, Joy and Magic that is Dorothy.
She will be welcomed in heaven by: her beloved husband Michael, her mama and papa, Johanna ‘Anna’ (Piskorz) and Michael Ardelli and her 11 brothers and sisters, Zygmond, Peter, Minnie, Ann, Victor, Mary, Aggie, Elsie, Mike, John and Charlie and many friends and family.
Those who remain her daughters Alexis (Grant), husband Danny, grandkids, Danielle and Charles and Jane (Rozeluk-Gagnon), husband Darrel Gagnon, grandkids, Glen and Anna, and all those who considered her mother, grandma, family and friend, will strive to continue her legacy of strength of character, love, kindness and family. Mom always said. "Promise me you will keep your family connections!" "We Promise!"
Many, many thanks to those who cared for mom and us: The Cape Breton Palliative team, Dr. Ritter, Jackie, Adele, Laurie and Theresa, Dr. Khodadad and all the members of the Cancer Center at CB Regional. The Valley Palliative Care team: Dr Burgess, Dr Birch, Jackie and Katrina. To the many members of the home VON Team. To Dr Ago & the staff at the Cancer Center at the VG, and to Nurse Annie for your care. To Dr. Gena Dickson and Dr. Brian MacInnis for your loving, supportive and dignified care of our mom and us. To the Valley Regional Medical B staff: for your care, compassion and dignity. To dearest Chelsea for your loving, dignified and precious care you gave to mom and us!
To our family and friends who helped and supported mom and us, thank-you and God bless you!
May angel’s wings carry you home dearest mama! You were the best mother! You live on in each of us. We will try to remember this: "Do not cry because it is over; Smile because it happened."
No wake will be held, as per Dorothy's wishes. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, in Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Reception to follow in Church hall. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Mary's Polish Church rebuild fund at stmaryspolishchurch.ca or a charity of your choice.
