Carter, Gerald (Jerry) Dennis - age 79, of Bible Hill NS
Surrounded by family, Jerry passed away peacefully Thursday, July 23, 2015 in the palliative care unit of the Colchester East Hants Health Center, Truro. Born on January 10th 1936 in Springhill, NS, he joined the Canadian armed forces, Signals Corp, in 1953 and retired as a Warrant Officer in 1979 after 26 years in the military. Jerry then worked with MT&T for 20 years, after which he took on his most pleasurable career, spoiling his granddaughters and all of their friends, who all called him Bumpy. Gerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda (Fraelic), son Blair (Rosemary) and his pride and joy, his three granddaughters, Victoria, Nicole and Caroline. Also surviving Jerry is his sister Doris (Hilton), brothers, Billy (Rosemary), Bobby (Hubba), George, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Gladys and brother Norman. He loved to cook for others. Whether it was getting up at 6 am to make breakfast for his son and friends at golf weekends, making the perfect over easy egg for house guests, helping out at the exhibition booth with the BH Kinsmen, or volunteering at Valley Elementary Schools hot lunch program, where he was known by most as Bumpy. Over the past 8 years, he battled numerous forms of cancer, and spent considerable time in hospitals in both Truro and Halifax. The care he received was outstanding. The Palliative Care team in Truro are to be commended not only for their medical care, but for their compassion, kindness, huge hearts and many hugs. He cared for the countless number of nurses that worked with him like they were family. When not in the hospital, he could often be found taking them in cake, cookies, chocolates and many other treats. Being one to always look out for others, his body has been donated to Dalhousie University for medical research.
