The family of Archie MacDonald, Ross Ferry, is saddened to announce his passing on July 24, 2015.
Archie was born on April 20, 1929 in Florence, Cape Breton, the eldest son of the late Archie and Edith (Orr) MacDonald.
A proud Mount A graduate and lifelong learner, Archie worked across Canada in finance and banking throughout his career. He was also very active in the community, sitting on the Boards of the Special Olympics, the VON and the YMCA, along with involvement in the United Church. After his retirement over 20 years ago, he moved back home to Cape Breton. He was never happier than when he was out on the Bras d’Or with his family. As he would often say, “It doesn’t get any better than this”.
Archie is survived by his wife of 50 years Judith (Best) MacDonald, brother Gordon MacDonald, Ross Ferry; his two daughters, Deborah Taylor, Tsawwassen, B.C., Sarah MacDonald (Christopher Craig), The Bahamas; his son Alan (Lynn) MacDonald, Toronto and his daughter-in-law Janet MacDonald. He was known to boast about his grandchildren Kate, Cara, Matthew, Liam, Charlotte, Abigail and Alasdair. They loved their Papa and were always happy to spend time with him.
Archie was predeceased by his first wife Ann Elizabeth (Campbell) MacDonald, his son Bruce, his brothers, Bill and Bob, and his son-in-law David Taylor.
There will be no visitation. A church service at Drummond Memorial, Ross Ferry will be held on Aug. 1 at 3 p.m. followed by a reception back at the house.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Society of Victoria County, P.O. Box 279, Baddeck, N.S., BOE 1BO or online at http://www.hospicesocietyofvictoriacounty.com.
