Catherine 'Kaye' Jane (MacNeil) Stevens
Born In: Alberta
Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: July 24th, 2015
It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family announce the passing of a dear wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother Catherine 'Kaye' Jane Stevens (MacNeil), 82, on Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Glace Bay Hospital after a short illness.
Born in Alberta, she was the daughter of late John and Frances MacNeil.
Kaye was the last surviving member of the MacNeil family of Smith Street, New Waterford.
Kaye worked as an X-ray technician in various centers spending most of her work life at the Glace Bay General Hospital on Brookside Street and chief X-ray technician at the New Glace Bay General on South Street until her retirement in 1989. Kaye struggled much of her life with the progressing effects of MS before MS was known in the medical literature as a diagnosis. Despite having MS as a handicap Kaye travelled with Herb through her retirement to many places, visiting family in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and parts of the U.S. to help celebrate happy events. Kaye enjoyed many memorable events over the years with close friends and neighbours. She also enjoyed many years of family gatherings at the family cottage on Trout Brook Road.
Kaye married Herb Stevens of Glace Bay in November 1957 and together they raised two daughters, Linda Mugford (Kevin), Saskatchewan and Dorothy Stevens, Glace Bay, blessed with six grandchildren Tyler (Kelly) Mugford, Aspen, Col. Kurtis Mugford, Saskatchewan, Kayla Mugford, Australia, Cameron Mugford, Halifax, Tracey House, Halifax, and Christopher House, Alberta and one great-grandchild Parker Mugford, Aspen, Col. The family will remember Kaye’s ongoing focus on providing her grandchildren with special gifts during the holidays and other celebrations.
In following Kaye’s wishes cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay. There will be a private family service of remembrance at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the MS Society or charity of one’s choice.
At this time we the family would like to thank Home Maker services, VON, Dr. O’Brien and staff, also the staff at 3rd west Glace Bay Hospital and special friends of the family for the wonderful care over the years.
