John William  Deveau

Deveau, John William – Age 78 of Truro, passed away peacefully July 25, 2015 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, after a lengthy illness. Born April 12, 1937 in Yarmouth, he was the oldest son of Amos and Ida (Donahue) Deveau. John served 25 years with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1954 to 1979, and then joined the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires until 2001. He took great pride in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments, loved his sports (especially baseball and curling), and looked forward to his daily walk to the mall for a coffee with friends.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Myers); his beloved children, Karen (Larry) Giddens of Elmsdale, NS, Lynn (Miles) Hubenig of St. Albert, AB and David (Severine) of Ottawa, ON, grandchildren David, Adam, Laura, Katie, Josh, Brian, Joey, Marlon, Dani, Kevin, Ryan, & Maxence; great granddaughter Lily; sisters, Mary Oxner, Dorothy (George) Cottreau, Nora (Jim) Myers, Ralph (Samantha), Joan McCall, Billy, and Patricia (Warren) O’Connell. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Sonny Boy; grandson Andrew Groskopf.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro from where visitation will take place Monday July 27th from 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday July 28th 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro. Father Francesco Pirisi will officiate assisted by Father Joseph Thomas with a reception to follow in Campbell Hall. A private family interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, Truro. A heartfelt gratitude is extended to his extraordinary caregiver, Darlene Fisher, Dr. Robert Graham, and the nurses on D3 Medical for their expert care and compassion.
