Patsy (Burroughs) Harland

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed on: July 29th, 2015

It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Patsy (Burroughs) Harland on July 29, 2015.
Patsy was born in Glace Bay in a loving family where mass and family rosary were part of her upbringing. She was the third oldest daughter of the late John & Florence Burroughs. She spoke fondly of days growing up in a small town in a home where visitors were warmly welcomed. There was always music, her dad playing piano and grandfather playing violin & guitar.
Patsy graduated from St. Michael High School in 1959, the first graduating class of the then new high school. She then entered St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing under the direction of the Sisters of St. Martha whom she always spoke fondly of. For many years Patsy was in the restaurant business in Sydney, Glace Bay and North Sydney and later she moved and resided in British Columbia and worked in the palliative care of West Coast Health Care.
Patsy was very proud of her Scottish and English roots. She loved music, history and cultural languages of which she spoke two. In her younger years she travelled to many parts of Canada, United States and many countries in Europe including the Vatican.
She is survived by her daughter, Tasia Boucher; grandchildren, Brett and Emma Boucher, whom she adored; sisters, Jean MacDonald, Wilma Cathcart (John), Glenda Wilneff; brother, Ron Burroughs (Marina) and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, William 'Bill' Harland; parents, John & Florence Burroughs; sister, Carol Marie in infancy and brother, John Arthur 'Jack' Burroughs; brother-in-law, Joseph MacDonald.
Visitation for Patsy will be held 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015 at Curry’s Glace Bay Funeral Home, 775 Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3rd at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow in the church foyer.
Online condolences to the Harland family are available through www.currysfuneralhome.com.
She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humour, kindness and love of family.
