Richard Vernon 'Skip'  McCormick

Richard Vernon 'Skip' McCormick, 74 years of Springhill, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the Late Charles Percy and Kathleen (Corbett) McCormick.
He was an active member of Springhill Baptist Church. Royal Canadian Legion Branch #17, Springhill, and active within the community. Richard was also a member of the O'Rourke AA Group and the Chiefs and Petty Officers Association.
Richard spent three years with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Reserve, after which he joined the Canadian Navy on September 30, 1957. He retired after 25 years service. Richard was a radar technician and air traffic controller for planes landing on the ship. After retiring in 1982, Richard was a Commanding Officer of the Canadian Sea Cadet Corps in Amherst. He also worked as a carpenter with Burton Smith for ten years.
He enjoyed faithfully watching the Blue Jays play, working on his house and cottage and being with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-three years, Ethel A. (nee Embree); sons, Darren (Debbie) McCormick, Dartmouth, C.P. (Jennifer) McCormick, Geary, NB; daughters, Charlene "Beth" (George) Meechan, Riverview, NB; brother, Roderick (Mary Lou) Fletcher McCormick, Huntsville, ON; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Roger Kim and daughter, Marlene Eve both in infancy; a twin brother, Reginald Vaughn; a brother, James Douglas Keith, and a sister, Beverly Ann.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902-597-2361). A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 1:30 until the memorial service at 3 pm. The Springhill Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a service at 2:30 pm
Our sincere thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who looked after Richard during his illness.
No flowers by request. Burial of the ashes will take place at sea at a later date.
If so desired, donations in Richard's memory may be made to The Springhill Baptist Church or a charity of one's choice.
