Olson: John James, age 83, of Gull Lake, SK passed away July 27, 2015 at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre. The Memorial Tea was held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Gull Lake Community Hall. Life Tributes were presented by James Olson and Brad Service. Honorary Pallbearers were all who shared in John's life. The interment service will be held at St. John Cemetery in the Antelope District at a later date. John is survived by his Partner; Myrna Spagrud; Sister-In-Law Kathleen Olson and her family; Daughter Melanie (Frank) Colby and their children Evan and Brynn; Tyler (Valerie) Payne and their children Veronica and Chance ; Son James (Brenda) Olson and their children Adam, Bradley and Madison; Son Greg (Dawn) Olson and their children Shawna and Kayla; Sister-In-Law Ellie Lekteman; Brother-In-Law Don (Bobbie) Service and their Son Brad (Maryan) Service and their children Ryan, Colin and Brynn; Daughter Sherri (Larry) Lafrantz and their children Lacy and Byron; Daughter Deanna (Heath) and her children Crystal, Lindsay and Braydon. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Ruth Olson; Father and Mother-In-Law Bob and Cora Service; his Wife Joyce; Brother Ted Olson and Great Nephew Jeff Olson. John was born on June 10, 1932 in Turtleford, SK. He attended school in Turtleford, Stonecliff and Antelope. He married Joyce Service on September 24, 1951 at the Service farm. John worked as a grain buyer for Federal Grain at Vesper, Gull Lake and Eastend for 22 ½ years and then worked for the R.M. of Gull Lake for 22 years. He was a member of the B.P.O.E, rode horse with Gymkana, played baseball for Gull Lake and fastball for Suffield and enjoyed curling in the winter months. John loved to play and sing music and played in dance bands in the area from a very young age right up until the past few years. He also truly loved horses and all other animals. John was a very neat and particularly honest type of guy. He enjoyed camping with his nieces and nephews and was loved by everyone that knew him. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. John will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. In his memory, memorial donations may be made to the S.P.C.A. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
