Margaret Ruth Smith

Following a brief illness, Margaret slipped away on Monday, July 27, 2015.
Born in Halifax, NS, on 13 February 1921, the third child of F. Reginald and Edith Pellow Hart, she was educated in Halifax public schools and at Horton Academy and Acadia University in Wolfville, NS, where she received her B.A. in Home Economics in 1941. There she met the love of her life, Douglas U. Smith of Amherst.
They were married in 1942 and moved to Amherst in 1946 after Doug returned from active duty with the Canadian Army in Europe. Together they raised three children, Michael, Linda, and Sheila.
Marg led an active life as home-maker while she participated in golf, curling, and badminton.
She cherished her Wednesday afternoon Bridge group for over 50 years.
She was an avid gardener and volunteered faithfully at the Cumberland Museum for many years.
Happy summers were spent at the cottage in Tidnish Cove with family and friends, and she and Doug travelled widely for decades, while after his death she enjoyed many trips with the A.G.N.S.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Doug, and daughter, Sheila, as well as her sisters, Betty and Sheila and brother Bruce. Marg leaves her son Michael, daughter Linda, grandchildren Patrick, Sheila, David and Alexa, and great-grandchildren Megan, Graham, and Louie.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation or funeral by request. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, 19428, Highway 2 R.R.# 6 Amherst, N.S.
