HALMAN, MacKENZIE KING "KEN"
The death of Ken MacKenzie King Halman of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the Veterans Health Unit on Thursday, August 6th, 2015. Born in Hardwicke, North Co. NB he was the son of the late Harry and Alice (Chapman) Halman and the husband of the late Dorothy (DeLong) Halman.
Ken joined the military in Newcastle, NB, on September 10th, 1939. He served overseas from 1942 -1945 with the Princess Louise Fusilers Unit of the 5th Canadian Armoured Division, serving in Italy (1943) and Holland until the end of the war. He later moved to Fredericton in 1946 where he worked for the Hartt & Shoe Factory. Ken then enjoyed a lengthy career with the Federal Government Department of Finance and the Unemployment Commission as a clerk. He was an honorary member of the Epsilon Y’s Men's Club, as well as a member of St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church and was a founding member of the Monsignor Boyd Centre. Ken’s greatest fulfilling enjoyment was teaching Bridge at the YMCA & Stepping Stones as well as the Monsignor Boyd Center.
Ken is survived by one brother, Lawrence Halman of Ottawa, ON; two sisters-in-law, Joan and Kathleen DeLong of Saint John, NB; best friends, Vaughn and Joyce Foster of Fredericton, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ken was predeceased by his parents; wife, Dorothy; four sisters and five brothers.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 11th, at 12:05 pm. Interment will be held in the Hermitage Cemetery at 2:30 pm with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 holding a tribute at that time.
