It is with great sadness that we the family announce the peaceful passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a loyal and true friend Mildred 'Mimmie' Taylor on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, at MacGillivary Guest Home in Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Sadie McKenzie.
In earlier years she worked at the Met store in Glace Bay and in Wolfville at the university. She enjoyed bowling and was on several teams, as well as skating and swimming. There was nothing she loved better than spending time with family and friends. A fun time with her precious grandchildren a good game of cards with the girls, watching TV with Mary or out on the Mira with Vonda.
Mimmie is survived by her loving daughter Brenda(Ray) MacNeil, Reserve Mines, her grandchildren, Carrie (Stephen) MacNeil, Ottawa, Brent (Melissa) MacNeil, Reserve Mines and one great-grandchild Ella, who was the apple of her eye; sister Verta Strong, brother Hugh 'Bunny' McKenzie, several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Harriet McKenzie.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Fred and Neil 'Buddie' McKenzie, sister Sally Mazzocca and sister-in-law Mel (McKenzie) Wilson.
In following Mimmie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, from 1-3 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke.
The family would like to say a special thanks to the wonderful staff at MacGillivary Guest Home in Sydney, for the wonderful care given to Mimmie.
