MAIR, HELEN
Helen Mair of Riverview passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, August 6 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Black Point, NB, Helen was one of eight children of Florence and Johnston Dickie.
Helen’s natural sense of caring and compassion led her to pursue nursing, graduating from the Victoria Public Hospital School of Nursing in Fredericton in 1950. Her career spanned several decades and specialty areas including the Victorian Order of Nurses, neonatal nursing at the Moncton Hospital and geriatric care at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home. Helen was vice chairman of the board of the Miss A. J. MacMaster School of Nursing. On October 18, 1952, she married the love of her life Arlington Stewart Mair, in Campbellton. Helen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, friend and grandmother. She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, playing bridge and baking. She was also a long time member of Central United Church and the St. Mark’s Unit of the UCW.
Helen is survived by her three children Jane Percy (Kevin), David Mair, Nora Lacey (Greg Potten); grandchildren Dr. Jennifer Percy (Daniel Clayden), Edward Percy (Alana Green) and Luke Lacey; her sister Ruby MacPherson and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Arlington, her parents, her brothers Wallace, Lloyd, Arthur, Kenneth and John Dickie and sister Marion Ward.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Moncton Hospital Emergency Department, Unit 4600 and Palliative Care for their kindness and compassion. Thanks also to the staff of Canterbury Hall.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm, with a celebration of Helen’s life to be held on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 2 pm, both in Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Rd, Moncton, NB, E1E 3V9, (506)852-3530. Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, with a reception to follow in the funeral home reception centre.
Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, of which Helen was a long-time supporter.
