THORBURN – Norman MacAloney Rector, age 74 of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, and formerly of Thorburn, passed away on Monday, August 10th , 2015, in the Villa.
Born in Thorburn, he was a son of the late Robert and Anne (Auld) Rector.
Norman was a resident of Thorburn for most of his life. He worked at the MacBean Mine before moving to Toronto where he drove trucks. He then moved back to Pictou County and was employed with the former Hawker Siddley rail car plant from where he retired.
Norman enjoyed fishing, woodworking, working on cars and family gatherings.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mona Nickerson of Thorburn; his children, Bruce (Maureen) Rector of Halifax, Theresa (Billy) Mahar of Priestville, James (Joy) Rector of Stellarton, Susan Rector of Valley View Villa, Reginald (Carol) Rector of Westville, Joyce (Bobby) MacKenzie of Abercrombie; 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Rector of New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Shirley Rector of Thorburn; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter in infancy, Mary, brothers, Daniel, John and James; sisters: Dolly and Bessie, Mary and Lexie.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home for visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Norman may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Fund.
The family would like to thank the staff of Valley View Villa for the excellent care and compassion given to Norman while he was a resident there.
