At the Provincial Palliative Care Centre, the peaceful passing of Elaine Smith (nee Roberts), of Kinkora, wife of the late Raymond Smith, occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2015, with family by her side. Born in Kinkora, on April 23, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Aloysius and Sadie (nee Sherry) Roberts. Elaine is survived by her children, Paul (Mike Murphy), Anne (Leo) Flood, Mary Ellen (Mike) Kelly; five loved grandchildren, Stacey (Chris) Flood Johnson, Craig Flood, Jared, Ryan and Connor Kelly; her first and cherished great-grandchild, Reegan Rae Johnson; brothers and sisters, Margie (Reg) MacLennan, Regina (late George) Murphy, Eldon (late Jean), Marina (late Don) Whalen, George (Linda), Winston, Gerard and Marcellus (late Marilyn); sister-in-law Eliz (Bill) Woods, brother-in-law Richard (late Dorothy) Strobl; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, David and brothers Ezekiel (Marge) and Desmond (Marie). Elaine was a pillar of strength, courage, compassion and love and this was ever more present in her final days, dying with dignity and grace. Visitation at Kinkora Place on Sunday, August 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 17, at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Kinkora, at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Malachy’s Parish Cemetery, Kinkora. Donations in memory of Elaine can be made to the Provincial Palliative Care Centre or St. Malachy’s Church Restoration Fund. CWL will say prayers at Kinkora Place on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora.
