William Hogan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Michael Fredrick Hogan, husband of Wendy (Legere) Hogan, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on August 16th, 2015. Bill was born on August 30th,1946 in Chatham and was predeceased by his parents Michael Benedict (Ben) Hogan and Dorothy Mary (Walsh) Hogan.
Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his children Michael Hogan (Kerry-Anne) of Ottawa and Jennifer Hogan (Charley McDougall) of Hartt’s Lake; the mother of his children Judy Mills; grandchildren Emily, Ben and Julia Hogan and Olivia McDougall; sisters and brothers: Carmel Myles (Jim) of Fredericton, Margaret Hogan (Karen Reecke) of Vancouver, Dorothy Carruthers (Jack) of Fredericton, Bernard Hogan of Fredericton, and Michael Hogan (Gael) of Calgary. Bill will also be fondly remembered by his nephews and nieces and by his many cousins in the extended Hogan and Walsh families.
Much to Bill and Wendy’s sorrow, they lost their cherished 13 year-old beagle, Maggie, to cancer last September.
Having completed his B.Sc. and B.Ed. degrees from UNB, Bill decided to join the family business, Hogan’s Jewel. In 1996, Bill returned to teaching. He taught in various schools in the Fredericton/Oromocto area, spending the final years of his teaching career at Leo Hayes High School. He was friendly and outgoing with everyone he met in all walks of life. Bill made many friends through his business and teaching experiences as well as through his many years bowling and playing bridge.
Visitation will take place at McAdam's Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 18th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 19th at 12:05 pm with Fr. Bill Brennan as celebrant. A reception will follow in the Monsignor Boyd Centre. A private interment will be held at the Hermitage Cemetery. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful support extended to Bill throughout his difficult illness by his teaching colleagues at Leo Hayes High School. As well, the care and many kindnesses he received from the nurses and doctors in Oncology and Palliative Care at the DECH will always be remembered and appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leo Hayes High School Scholarship Fund for a graduating student who has overcome adversity (a value that Bill held dearly as a teacher), the NB Police Association or a charity of your choice.
