CLARK, J. Alvin, Lyons Brook
November 15, 1930 – August 15, 2015
With heavy hearts Alvin’s family announces his peaceful passing in the Palliative Care Unit of Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family by his side. Alvin was born and raised on the family farm at Poplar Hill, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, the oldest son of the late Lee Roy & Minnie (MacKay) Clark. Alvin was a devoted husband, brother, uncle and a supportive father. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley (Falconer); sons, James Alexander ‘Sandy’ and (Sandy Girl), Welsford; Randy (Kim), Alberta; Sim (Bonnie), Brook Road, River John; daughters, Ann (Alfie) Dalton, Poplar Hill; Shelley (Leonard) Bigney, River John; sisters, Margaret MacArthur, Sundridge; Catherine Goodall, New Glasgow; Beatrice Munroe, Halifax; Liz (Bob) MacKenzie, Toney Mills and Martha (Douglas) Farquhar, Kitchener, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Mary Clark, Poplar Hill; Marie nee Clark (Hugh) Langille, River John; He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and special niece, friend and devoted family supporter, Florence Elliott, New Glasgow; brothers-in-law, James Munroe, New Glasgow and Ron Goodall, West Branch. Besides his parents, Alvin was predeceased by brothers, Russell (1968), Lewie (2006), Albert (2015) and brother-in-law, Ken MacArthur (2014). Alvin was a very proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and a great grandfather of 18 great grandchildren. He looked forward to all of their visits, especially Papa’s time spent with Kaelin and Keil Sutherland on Sunday mornings. As a young adult, Alvin worked in the woods in the surrounding areas, later he was employed with the CNR section gang working under the direction of his late uncle Rod Clark for 20 years. Following this he became a self employed trucker and member of the Pictou County Truckers Association for 26 years. He was a backhoe operator and woodsman, clearing land with his crew, building the fence around the pulp mill and along local railroads. After retirement, Alvin enjoyed touring the provinces with Shirley in their motor home attending many outdoor concerts. He also enjoyed time spent with his many friends while being a member of the ATV Association for 20 years, touring Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Alvin loved to garden and took great pride in his flowers and shrubs when they lived in Meadowville, Heathbell and lately at their cosy home in Lyons Brook. Family and friends were very important to Alvin and he certainly enjoyed all their many excursions and visits over the years. Arrangements are under the direction of the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Cremation has taken place. By Alvin’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside committal service will take place on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 2 PM in Bethel Cemetery, Scotsburn for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alvin’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care.
