JAMES RAYMOND SMITH
Ray passed away peacefully at Extendicare on August 17, 2015. Ray was born in Moose Jaw in on October 23, 1925, and received his education at Carmel School, Central Collegiate and one year at the University of Saskatchewan. He married Irene Archer on January 1, 1952. Predeceased by his wife Irene, Ray is survived by his son Lorne, and daughter Barbara (Randy) Roman; four grandchildren, Pam (Jeff) O’Keefe, Amber (Mike) Costley, Lisa (Bart) Hazell, and Jason Smith; great-grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Carter and Kenzie Hazell, Madison and Mikayla O’Keefe, Rylan, Kaden, and Jadee Costley; and many nieces and nephews. Ray was secretary of the Carmel School Board, a member of the Chester Rural Telephone Board, member of the Moose Jaw Exhibition Board, past-president of the Moose Jaw Agricultural Society, a member of the United Grain Growers local Board, and Representative on the Providence Hospital Board. He received the Farmer of the Year in 1985, and was a recipient of the Century Farm Award in 1990. Special thanks to the staff of Crescent Park Villa and Extendicare for the care and compassion shown to our father while he was in their care. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday August 20, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will take place at the Moose Jaw Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorial donations to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated. In living memory of Ray, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
