It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and uncle, Wilson Johnston, age 94, of North Sydney, on Monday, Aug. 17, 2015 at the Northside General Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in North Sydney, Oct. 15, 1920, Wilson was the son of the late John William and Mary Hannah (Wooldredge) Johnston. Wilson was a Canadian Army veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was employed for a number of years as a furnace man with International Nickel in Ontario. He was a member of the St. John Ambulance for many years.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Nevils, Port Colbourne, Moira Hazel MacGuire, Maryland, USA; one son, John Wilson (Pamela) Johnston, Port Colbourne, also surviving are six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Wilson was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Helen (MacLean) Johnston; one daughter, Catherine Mary; his brothers, Danny and Joseph, his sisters, Ivy, Eva Mae, Sadie and Elizabeth.
Cremation will take place and Wilson’s ashes will be transported to Ontario for burial at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
