Mike Moen, age 63, passed away, peacefully, with his family by his side on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK. A Celebration of Life was held on August 6, 2015 at the Stewart Valley Community Center with his friend Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. Mike was survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Debbie; his children, Corie (Lee) Lanceleve, Aaron (Janet) Moen and Jennie Moen; his grandchildren Bobi, Kase, Charity, Jessie, Mason, Kallee, Shaye-Lynn and Ky; his mom Gladys Moen; his mother in law Doreen Carlson; sisters Terry (Doug), Maxine (Mac) and Carol (Gord); brothers Brent (Audrey), Darcy (Wilma), Blair (Orla), and Tracey; Brother in law Mark (Terry); Sister in law Tracy (Kim); many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews that he cared for very much and many close friends he thought of as family. Mike was predeceased by his Dad Arne Moen, Step father Benny Moen, father in law Omer Carlson, brother in law Conrad Redmond and numerous other special relatives and friends. Urn Carriers were Dads good friends Tom McConnell and Kelly Ashdown. He was carried ahead of his family through a cowboy honour guard. Tributes were given by his brother Brent, his son Aaron and daughter Jennie (Corie was the backup). Songs played at Dads request were “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” and “The Old Rugged Cross ”. The service closed with a tribute family dance to “Daddy sang Bass”, then the kids release balloons outside and we finished the day off with fireworks. Dad requested that everyone who took time to come to the BBQ, who visited at the hospital, who visited at home, came to the benefit be his honorary pall bearers. The ushers were “the boys” Jeff Knight, Kyle Switzer, Mike Thue, Clair Fitzpatrick and Dusty Caragata. The powerpoint and music was beautifully prepared by Karlee Ruf. The celebration of life was done the way Dad wanted it similar to the BBQ we had after Dads terminal diagnosis. We know the BBQ was Dads way of saying goodbye and made it possible for him to be at his own celebration, so to speak. Dad was a grandpa, dad, husband, son, brother, uncle, farmer, cowboy, carpenter, mayor, volunteer and most importantly a friend to all. He was a friend to his kids, grandkids, family circle, friends and neighbours alike. He really enjoyed visiting with everyone and he always had time for a cup of coffee. The most important part of Dads life was his kids and grandkids, his face would light up when he saw them and he always had time to give a hug, a kiss and say “I love you”. Dad faced many serious health issues throughout his life and because of this he believed that every day was a gift and that is how he lived every single day and we are all very grateful for the gift of the time we had. All Dad wanted was to have a close family, he said that he was rich, not rich by most peoples standards but rich in his relationships. Dad said “I know I could’ve been very successful but I chose to help raise my kids and be a part of their life. That was and is most important. As long as I had enough to live, I’d rather do things to help people for nothing because they maybe need it more than I do.” He was very rich indeed.
