She worked for many years in various capacities for the Province of New Brunswick, then worked at the University of New Brunswick where she was secretary to five consecutive UNB Presidents before she retired in 1991. A talented pianist and accompanist, she played for ballet students for many years in Beaconsfield, Quebec, for the Gilbert & Sullivan Society, for Lintuhtine, and other choirs in the churches of which she was a member, and for the DVA Hospital, various units at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, and for services and concerts in several nursing homes and the Legion. She served as president of the Pine Grove Foundation and on its Board for many years. She was an active member of Wilmot United Church, serving as clerk of session, elder, and on many committees, and lately was a choir member and pianist at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
Doris was predeceased by her parents; her husbands, Gene Peacock and Jim Nicholson; her brothers, Hymie and Eric McFee; her sister, Margery Stillwell; and her step-children, Sharon Davenport and Jimmie (Rose) Nicholson.
She is survived by her children, Ernie (Diane) Peacock, Marcia (Bernie) Crouch and Steven Peacock; her sisters, Marie Neill and Helen Ball; her brother, Hubert McFee; her stepdaughter, Barb (Terry) Boyle; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on York Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 22. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 23 at 2 p.m., with Reverend Doug Blaikie and Reverend Bob Jones officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to the Fredericton SPCA, Pine Grove Foundation, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
