Edna (Musgrave) Jackson

Born: February 15th, 1918

Passed in: North Sydney
Passed on: August 21st, 2015

We, the family of Edna Jackson, are sad to announce the death of our dear mother on Aug. 21, 2015. Mom died surrounded by her family at Northside General Hospital after suffering a brief illness.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Jackson, in 1962.
Born Feb. 15, 1918, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family, parents William Peter Musgrave and Mary (nee MacDonald of Black Rock, Victoria County) Musgrave, her sister, Sadie Evans, and her two brothers, Charles and John Musgrave. She was, sadly, predeceased by her grandson, Paul MacLeod, great-granddaughter, Cynthia Marie MacLeod and son-in-law, Hugh MacLeod.
Edna is survived by her children, Theresa Pelley (Walter) , Shirley MacLeod, Sandy Jackson (Anne), Rhonda Black (Bill) and Kathy MacIntosh (Ian). She will be sorely missed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, grandson Bob Pelley (Melodie MacNeil) great-grandchildren Sam, Macklin and Boyd Pelley; grandson James Pelley (Kelley Ann) great-grandchildren Adam, Emily and Catherine Pelley; granddaughter Christine Pelley (Gavin MacDonald) great-grandchildren Calum and Niall MacDonald; grandson Stephen MacLeod (Paula); great-granddaughter Blayre Ivey (William Young), great-great-grandsons Sawyer and William Young; great-grandson Nicholas MacLeod; granddaughters Lori Jackson and Kellie Jackson; grandson Terry Clark (Patricia) and great-grandsons Zachary, Jakob and Lukas Clark; granddaughter Tracy Clark (Clarey Dove) great-granddaughter Nicole Clark; granddaughter Adrienne MacIntosh Collins (Jonathan) great-granddaughters Evelyn and Amelia Collins; grandson Jackson MacIntosh and granddaughter Mary MacIntosh. Edna will also be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mom enjoyed looking after her home and her family and she was at her happiest when she was making tea and a lunch for anyone who came to visit. She took great pleasure from any form of Scottish entertainment and events. She loved to take in the Highland Games, piping competitions and a good Scottish tea or concert — and if it was a good long drive away on a nice day — all the better.
The Presbyterian values instilled in Mom in her youth stayed with her throughout her life. She was a strong woman who valued honesty and hard work. Never one to want more than she needed, Mom was generous to a fault. She took great pride in her appearance and was a lady, in every sense of the word. Because her strong resemblance to the Queen only increased with age, her great-grandchildren would ask “Why is Nannie’s picture on the twenty dollar bill?”
Widowed at the age of 44, she kept the family home running until she was 80 years old when she moved into her apartment. There she stayed, living independently and quite contentedly, until she became ill at the age of 96. She enjoyed many family celebrations: birthdays, Christmases, weddings, welcoming newborns on their first visit to see her and welcoming various grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they returned home from away. We will all remember the many happy occasions.
Her last months were made as comfortable as possible by the wonderful staff of the Northside Community Guest Home and the nursing staff on 4W and on 4E at Northside General Hospital. We especially appreciate the care and understanding Mom received from Dr. John Kirkpatrick over the years.
For those wishing to make a charitable contribution in memory of Mom, we suggest donations to the Northside Community Guest Home or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
Cremation has already taken place. Visitation and funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Alexandra Street, Sydney. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. A reception will follow. The committal service will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens for family only.
