Cornie was born on May 20, 1934 in the McMahon District He attended school at Dunelm, Oman and Ashley Park School. He married Doreen Zabel on March 28, 1959 in Swift Current. Cornie worked at Rathwell's Esso and then Dairy Producers. After he retired from Dairy Producers, he went to work at Big Gallon Carwash. It was there he was known by many for walking his four mile round trips to work. Cornie was a proud member of Community Baptist Church. He was a self-taught jack of all trades who loved working with his hands. Whether it was pumping gas or delivering or bottling milk. One of Dad's special interest was wood working and was always more than willing to get working on any project we or anyone else would come to him with. He never wasted any time getting to work on it. We joked he was done the project before we had even completely explained the idea to him. Many family and friends are the recipients of his hard loving work. Enjoying his back yard with Mom was one of his favorite past times. Building birdhouses to hang in their Elm tree was one way he brought his yard to life. Another was getting together with friends and family for backyard gatherings. Helping others was always a pleasure for Dad. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and never wanted any recognition for it. He often said he was simply doing it for God. Once diagnosed, Dad's battle with cancer was met with courage, dignity and an unwavering faith. In Dad's final weeks he would often mention to us girls how thankful he was for Mom. He called her his angel from Heaven and said if he could, he wanted to marry her again in Heaven. Our hearts are heavy with sadness and we will all miss you so much but we rejoice in knowing you are free of pain and home with Jesus. Cornie will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all his family and numerous friends. In his memory, memorial donation may be made to the Community Baptist Church or the Canadian Cancer Society. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
