It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of the late Oblena Luedee of Hinchey Ave. and a former longtime resident of Wood Avenue, New Waterford, announce her peaceful passing on Aug. 28, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, N.S.
Mary Oblena (Watson) Luedee was born in New Waterford on June 17, 1941 to Oswald and Mary (Martin) Watson (of New Waterford and Boisdale).
Oblena married her love, Anthony Luedee and together they raised two children, Leonard and Helen Marie, to value family and friends.
Oblena was a devout Catholic and member of the former Mount Carmel Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford. She worked for many years at the Medical Hall and Woolworths of New Waterford. Oblena was a devoted mother, sister and friend, although her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Many cherished hours were spent baking cookies and playing cards with them. Oblena enjoyed a good game of cards, (particularly tarabish tournaments), attending dances in Boisdale and praying her daily rosary.
Oblena is survived by her devoted son, Leonard Anthony Luedee and her loving daughter, Helen Marie Luedee-Boone and her children Justin, Janelle, Danielle, and Michael; her twin sister, Dolores (Alex) Kennedy and baby sister, Marilyn Reid; special lifelong friend, Lena Graham; in-laws, Pauline MacIsaac, Margie Rosenburg, Eileen Dickus, Pete Luedee and Angela Faughnan; many nieces and nephews.
Oblena was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Luedee; parents, Oswald and Mary Watson; brothers-in-law, John 'Jackie' Reid, Joe, Phillip, Leonard, Bill and Johnny Luedee; sister-in-law, Helen MacIsaac.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford, immediately following the funeral mass.
Donations in her memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit or the Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
A special thank you to the staff of Emergency and Palliative Care Units at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital along with the New Waterford Homemakers.
