Dartmouth/Trenton - Harvey Lester MacNaughton, age 64, of Dartmouth and Trenton, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015 at home.
Born August 31, 1950 in New Glasgow, he was a son of Rose (Mitchell) Ross and the late Lester MacNaughton.
Harvey recently retired from VIA Rail, Halifax-Montreal run, after 32 years of service.
His quick wit and cutting humour were such a large part of his personality that those around him would be bent over with gut-wrenching laughter. He was always a “phone call or a text away” and was a loyal, loving son, brother, uncle, and brother-in-law.
Harvey was a sports enthusiast and a lifelong learner. Before retiring, he purchased a computer and enjoyed the freedom to access vintage boxing matches and music videos. He was involved with nominating boxers to the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame and was successful in one of his nominees being inducted.
Besides his mother he is survived by sisters: Ellen (Barry) Corbett; Adele (Ivon) MacKay; nephews: Brett MacKay; Jace MacKay; aunt, Betty Milne; uncle, Alvin Sinclair; several cousins.
He was predeceased by step father, George Ross; grandparents: Harry and Jennie MacNaughton; Harvey and Belle Mitchell.
Visitation 1-2 p.m. Tuesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, followed by a service at 2 p.m., with Mr. Fergie MacKay officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Harvey may be made to the Albion Amateur Boxing Club, PO Box 734, Trenton, NS, BOK 1XO.
