It is with broken hearts and much sadness, we the family, announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara (Morton) Kempt of Groves Point at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Sept. 3, 2015.
Born in Kenora, Ont., Dec. 23, 1925. Barbara was the daughter of the late Robert and Lizzie (Bridger) Morton. A veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Canadian Women’s Corps. She met her beloved husband Earle and they lived a wonderful 69 years together. Earle predeceased her in 2014.
They spent productive lives working hard and raising their family. A member of the former Wilson United Church, Florence she was a Sunday school teacher.
Our mom worked on the farm for a time, then worked at Leonard’s Brothers, Sobeys and the National Sea where she was a supervisor until she retired.
Mom had many talents including her love for quilting, sewing, paper toll, toll painting, ceramics, stained glass, music, playing the piano, organ and accordion. Knitting was a skill she shared with an orphanage in the Ukraine, sending hats, mitts, scarves and knitted toys. In thanks for her many contributions a computer room was named in her honour.
She was a wonderful cook, baker and always had plenty of treats on hand for a visitor. Her big heart led her to volunteering after retirement, which included 1000 hours at the North Side General and always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
Left to grieve are her three children, Ronald (Dianne), Groves Point, Dianne (Norman) MacIntosh, London, Ont. and Darlene (Timothy G.) Whitty, Groves Point. Grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, Blair (Jeany) Whitty, Kingston, Ont., Brian (Jennifer) Whitty, Sackville, Jason Kempt, Sydney, Tracie (Nick) MacIntosh-Klisht, London, Ont. and Tara MacIntosh, Toronto, Ont.
