MacALPINE, George Douglas –age 81 of Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on September 5, 2015. Born in Hassett on September 23, 1933 he was the eldest son of the late Louie and Carrie (Brooks) MacAlpine. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Rose and Carolyn; and brother, Charles. He is survived by loving wife, Gertrude; daughter, Teri (Andrew) Nickerson, Deerfield; son, Michael, Sackville; stepchildren, Lorna (Wayne) Pothier, Wedgeport; Darrell (Karen) Pothier, Sackville; brothers and sisters, Hilda (Wallace) Mullen, New Tusket; Jim (Ruth), Digby; Walter (Carol), Weymouth North; John (Dora), Digby; Alice (Paul), Rigby, ON; Alston (Peggy), Digby; Earl, Bridgewater; Betty (Ken Erskine), Smith Cove; Howard (Edna), Saint John; Marilyn (Ray), Whiting, ON; Anna Williams, Bedford; Gail (Claude) Comeau, Eel Lake; Kennie, Digby; grandchildren, Shelby, Nicholas, and Alexander; step grandchildren, Lacey and Sarah. George was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He was a mechanic by trade and owner of Maitland Motors Ltd., an International dealer of trucks, tractors, and farm equipment for over 20 years. He loved working in his garage, hunting, 4 wheeling, watching wrestling and boxing. He especially loved camping on his land at “the lake” and going to bluegrass festivals. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by request. A funeral service was held Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Weymouth Church of Christ, Rev. Collins officiated. A private interment followed. A reception was held at Weymouth Church of Christ following the interment. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to the Hassett Cemetery Fund. Special thanks to Dr. R.
