John Chenier

CHENIER, JOHN PATRICK
John Patrick Chenier was born to Mary (O’Keefe) and Robert Chenier on March 4, 1943 in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec.
He is survived by his wife Karen Mann; his daughters, Lesley (Rod) and Christine (Kelly); their mother Helen; his grandchildren, Mathieu and Thomas and by his younger brothers, Robert, Albert, Francis and their families.
When John was a young boy growing up in the North End of Saint John, he imagined his place in the world as his “square” and he would wonder how big his square would become throughout his life. On a geographic basis his square became a sphere as he and Karen travelled the world together visiting all seven continents. But his “square” of influence was much greater. He loved his family and did his best to ensure that everyone had what they needed for a fulfilled life.
He loved New Brunswick and spent the majority of his working life working for the people of his province. John graduated from St. Malachy’s High School in 1962. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree (Chemistry) from St. Francis Xavier University in 1966. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Marketing) in 1971.
John held many positions in his student days from Junior Fire Marshall of the girl’s side of St. Peter’s School in Saint John, President of his class at St. Xavier and Vice President of the Student Union. John played Rugby at St. Malachy’s and Curled for many years.
He worked for Johnston and Johnston as Plant Manager in Montreal as Chief of Operations; for Canada Post Headquarters in Ottawa and came to Fredericton in 1973.
John was Assistant Secretary to the Treasury Board and retired as Assistant Deputy Minister of Labor and Employment. John has travelled extensively and spent the past few winters in Bradenton, Florida.
John had many passions but the thing that he was most passionate about was leaving the world a better place than he found it. He achieved this in many ways, large and small and we who had the pleasure of knowing him, will miss him.
Visitation for John will be held from Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 3:00 Pm to 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 11 at 12:00 Noon from Holy Family Parish Church with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Interment at a later date.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to a favorite charity of your choice.
