FERRIS, DOREEN
The family of Doreen Ferris, wife of the late Charles (Mike) Ferris, sadly announce her passing, which occurred peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Turnbull Nursing Home. Born in Saint John on August 11, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Keleher) Hooley.
Doreen was an active life long member of St. Rose of Lima church, teaching Catechism, and involved through the CWL. She was recognized for her commitment to Meals on Wheels for over 35 years in 2008.
She was totally devoted to her family. Raising her six children after the untimely passing of her husband in 1963, was her greatest accomplishment. Supported by her sister Rita, Doreen provided a wonderful home full of love and activity for her children. She was very proud of her family and the biggest supporter of her children and grandchildren - always available for a sporting event or extra babysitting.
Doreen is survived by her children: Ellen Palmer (Mark) of Saint John, Michael Ferris (Myfanwy) of Moncton, Patrick Ferris (Pam) of GrandBay-Westfield, Susan Carr (Greg), Daniel Ferris (Leslie) both of Saint John and Barbara Dickson (Don) of Quispamsis. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren: Jim (Jessica) Palmer, Karen (Richard) Casey, Michael (Amie) Palmer, Janet Palmer, Matthew (Annick Comeau) Ferris, Bryn Ferris, Jennifer (Tim Saulnier) Ferris, Kelly (Barry) Robson, Ryan (Angie) Ferris, Aaron (Kristy) Ferris, Eric (Robyn Carpenter) Carr, Adam Carr, Sean Carr, Drew (Laura Taylor) Carr, Colin Ferris, Gena (Lewis Simard) Ferris, Elizabeth Dickson and Laura Dickson, 13 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her children, Doreen is also survived by her sister, Rita Hooley, sisters-in-law, Elsie Hooley, Ellen Hooley, and Dot Ferris.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Frank, as well as her sisters Madeline Hooley, Alice Hooley, Gertrude Phinney and Rose Forrestell.
Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home with visitation on Thursday, September 10th, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christion Burial will be celebrated from Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 12:00 O’ clock on Friday, September 11th, 2015. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception for Doreen’s friends and family will follow in the Castle “Fallsview” Reception Center.
Donations to L’Arche, the Alzheimer’s Association, Heart and Stroke, or the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
