It is with heavy hearts that we share with relatives, friends and neighbours the passing of Michael 'Mike' Gerald MacIsaac on Sept. 10, 2015 at Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay.
Born and raised in Big Pond, he was the son of the late John Michael and Catherine (MacIntyre) MacIsaac. He was a faithful member of St. Theresa’s parish, Sydney.
Mike was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders in Italy, France, Belgium and Holland.
In 1988, Mike retired from Sydney Steel after 41 years as a millwright in the Blooming Mill department. Proud of his Scottish heritage, Mike loved Gaelic music and language. He most especially enjoyed the Gaelic summer concerts and Donnie Campbell’s Sunday evening radio show “Celtic Serenade”.
Left to mourn his loss and cherish all that he was are his loving children, Jeanette MacDougall, South Bar, Elaine (Cecil) Langer, Middleton, Ann Frances MacIsaac, Coxheath; grandchildren, John and Ian MacDougall, Michael and Michelle Langer and Jake and Jillian MacIsaac and his only sister, Christie MacInnis. Also surviving are in-laws, Jeanette and Harry Meens, Angie Goodwin, Fred and Faye McPhee, Agnes McPhee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Eileen (MacPhee), his only and beloved son, Gregory; son-in-law, John Alan MacDougall; brothers, Danny Angus, John, Victor, Joseph Stephen and George and cherished family friend, Andrew 'Andy' Norlan.
Mike was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He was a good friend, neighbour and work colleague. He will be remembered for his pleasant smile, caring nature, admirable strength of character and quick wit. To his children and grandchildren he was a source of wisdom, comfort and support. He listened without judgement, with sincere compassion and deep love. His unique, beautiful spirit is irreplaceable and will be forever missed.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. MacIsaac. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church, Whitney Ave. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. A reception will follow at St. Theresa’s Parish Center, St. Peter’s Road. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
