COALBURN – Clarence Alfred Smith, 86, Coalburn, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Coalburn, he was a son of the late Stanley and Margaret Ann (Miller) Smith. Clarence was a carpenter and had been employed with MacDougall’s Construction for many years, retiring from Nova Scotia Power in 1994. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Clarence enjoyed gunsmithing, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He was an expert marksman and had been a member of the Thistle Hand Gun Club and Pictou County Rifle Association. Clarence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, June; daughters, Phyllis (Roderick) MacKay, Coalburn; Susan Kennedy (Lennie Knickle), Plymouth; Leah Smith (Dave Higgins), Lake Echo; grandchildren, Mark MacDonald (Jennifer); Michael MacDonald (Bobbi-Lynn) and their son, Maddox; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Smith, Coalburn; Margaret Smith, Vancouver; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sons, Scottie and Dale; sisters, Tena Rector and Gladys Millard; brothers, Henry, Stanley “Plum”, Charlie and Jimmy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, 208 MacLean Street, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow.
