It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ella Josephine Dawson age 97 on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Northumberland Hall, Amherst, NS.
Born in Barronsfield, Cumberland County, NS she was a daughter of the late Frank and Louisa (DesBarres) Burke.
Ella was a dedicated school teacher in Cumberland County for several years. She finished her teaching career with the Halifax School Board, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Organization.
In the last five years, the staff of Northumberland Hall became Ella’s extended family, providing much love and care. It was there Ella was introduced to pets and little babies which brought her much comfort.
Ella is survived by her brother Douglas Burke of Albert County, NB his son Brent (Susan) Burke and their children Samantha, Holly and Taylor of Lindsay, ON, and his daughter Cindy (Paul) Rostant and her children Derek and Alex of Moncton, NB.
Ella is also survived by her relatives Linda and Reg Arseneau of Dieppe, NB and Sharon Gould of Nappan, NS as well as other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Ella was predeceased by her husband Leone Dawson in 2000 and by sisters Maudest (1920 – 1925) and Theresa (1924 – 1954).
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 2:30 p.m. all in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906)
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating.
Interment will take place in the St. Denis Cemetery, Minudie.
Family flowers great fully accepted.
Should one desire, memorial donations in Ella’s memory may be made to the St. Denis Church, Minudie.
