Melmerby Beach - Donald S. Bell, of Melmerby Beach, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully 15 September, 2015 at home at 75 years of age. Born 14 March, 1940 in New York City, New York, USA, he was a son of the late Adam Carr Bell and Katherine “Kay” (Trotter) Bell. Donald spent his first eighteen years splitting his time between Jackson Heights, Queen’s and Melmerby Beach, Pictou County, Nova Scotia.
As young man, Donald quickly identified he had an affinity for an occupation in sales. He developed a reputation as an eager self-starter and quickly climbed the corporate ranks eventually becoming Executive Vice-President of Marketing and Sales of Plough Canada. During his tenure with Plough, he saw an opportunity to move his family back to his beloved Nova Scotia and started Don Bell Sales Limited. Donald sold his company and entered into what he described as a “semi-retirement” opportunity, a franchise with St. Clair Paint and Paper. Unable to fully retire, Donald decided to work for the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission until finally and fully retiring at age 67.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Genevieve (Delaney); sons: Christopher (wife Nicole, and Grandsons Evan and Haydn) and Scott (wife Jayne, Grandkids Sterling, Abigail, and Emily); brother, Adam “Jake” (Diane). He was a loving husband, proud father, doting grandfather, and cherished friend. A visitation will be held between 2-4 pm, Tuesday, September, 22, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with a private family burial to follow. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of choice. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca
