Charles Arthur "Art" Weatherby

Weatherby, Charles Arthur “Art”, 88, of Bible Hill, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at home, with his family by his side. Born in Lower Onslow on June 4, 1927, he was the younger son of the late Charlie and Sadie Weatherby. Art grew up in North River and was very active with the North River sports community, especially the North River Aces. As a young man he operated a General Store at Marshall’s Corner, worked at Goodspeeds, Tidewater Oil Company and finally retired after 34 years as the Parts Manager at Wilson Equipment. Art was a former Fire Chief and volunteer member of the Bible Hill Fire Brigade since moving to Bible Hill in 1957. He was also a member of St. David’s United Church, Bible Hill, serving as both an Elder and a Scout Master. Most recently he was honored for 60 years of Volunteer Service to his community. Art loved to hunt, fish, play golf, bowl, and was always ready for a good game of cards. His family was his passion and he was dearly loved by all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Art is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth (Langille); his children, Paul (Lorna), Wendy Bryan, Jo-Ann, and Chuck (Susan); grandchildren, Kelly (Matt), Joe (Rebecca), Dave (Ali), Josie, Tammie, Jennifer, and Charlie; great-grandchildren, Pippa, Hugo, Odessa, Brianna, Amelia, Ella, Jack, Nicola, and Maddie. He was predeceased by his brother, Les; sister-in-law, Phyllis; brothers-in-law, Ken and Allan Langille; grandson, Adam (Little C.A.). Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, from where visitation will be held 6 ~ 8 pm Sunday, September 20, and also from where the Bible Hill Fire Brigade will conduct a firemen’s tribute service at 7 pm Sunday. Funeral service will be held 3 pm Monday, September 21, in St. David’s United Church Bible Hill, with Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. Interment to follow in the Bible Hill Cemetery, Warren Drive, Bible Hill. A reception will then be held in the Bible Hill Fire Hall. Donations in Art’s memory may be made to the Bible Hill Fire Brigade or to a charity of your choice.
