LORD, RALPH "BAMBI"
1928 - 2015
Ralph "Bambi" Lord, 87, of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Sunday, September 20th, 2015, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton, NB. He was the husband of the late Marie-Émélie Morin, deceased on June 25, 2015, after 57 years of marriage. Raised in McAdam, NB, he was the son of the late Ralph Herbert Lord and the late Irene Kathleen (née: Shakespeare) Lord.
He is survived by one daughter, Marie-Linda Lord (François); three sons: Dr. Frank (Lillian) of Dieppe, Roger and Hon. Bernard (Diane), both of Moncton; 11 grandchildren: Amélie, Katrine, Xavier, Alex, Jean-Patrick, François-Guy, James, Julie, Kathleen, Sébastien and Jasmine; five great-grandchildren: Annabelle, Camille, Rosie, Alice and Noah; and also his brother Alfred "Nert", as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Irene "Renee" and his brother Ernest "Ernie".
His entire career was spent in the transportation sector. As a teenager, while still attending school, he worked for the Canadian Pacific in McAdam. At the age of 17, he joined the Canadian Navy where he served for five years. In 1952, he enrolled at the Moncton Flying Club in order to become a pilot and was awarded the prize for best pilot in the Atlantic Provinces. He started his career as a bush pilot in Canada’s Far North. He became captain at the age of 26. During his career, he obtained flying permits for 65 different planes, amongst them, water bombers, for which he became a training pilot in Canada, Europe and South America. He then went on to work as the Atlantic Regional Director of Aviation Regulation for Transport Canada until retirement. He was a man of many talents: fiddler, woodworker, painter, gardener, cook, and hockey coach. He also volunteered for many organizations such as the Red Cross. He will always remain a great source of inspiration to his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB (857-1901) on Friday 25th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm ONLY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB, on Saturday, September 26th, 2015 at 11 am.
