The beloved Rita Grace Eidsness, born July 14, 1930, passed away peacefully of old age September 16, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones. We remember her as a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, auntie and mother-in-law. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Irene Scott; daughters, Kari (Darwin), Dona (Rick), Ruth, and Lisa (Dwight); grandchildren, Jonathon, Jason (Ashley), Jordan (Stephanie), Jerianne (Ben), Jodilyn, Julian, Devon, Bryton, Jamie (Jared), Shawn, Cole, Mina Jeanne, Caleb, and Damian; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sadie and Jasmine. Rita was born in Avonlea, SK and was raised in Rouleau, SK. She was the youngest of 3 children. Here she met her lifelong friend of 83 years, Joyce Quigley, with whom she shared many memories. She also met her husband, Edward, there and they shared 59 years of marriage. Ed and Rita were married in Rouleau in 1950 and welcomed their first daughter, Kari, in 1960. They moved from Regina as a family to Swift Current in 1960 and built their family home on Ashley Drive where they lived for 54 years. They welcomed 3 more daughters, Dona in 1963, Ruth in 1965 and Lisa in 1971. She also welcomed a few honourary family members; Vince Eidsness, who was Ed's nephew, moved in with them in 1965 and lived there for 7 years, and Linton Janz, who was a good family friend, lived with them for 20 years. Rita spent the majority of her time being a dedicated wife and mother. She never missed a skating carnival, or a music festival or a school activity. She sat on many organizations such as the High School Choral Association and the Figure Skating Club Association. Rita was also a business woman, taking over Carmelle's Ladies Wear with her good friend, Betty Falkingham, in 1982. The United Church also benefitted from her volunteer work as she sat on their General Council for many years. She was a loyal member of her Beta Sigma Phi group for over 50 years where she made lifelong friends. Rita was the first resident of Cypress House when she moved in last August. Their care for her has been exemplary. As a family we would like to thank the staff of Cypress House for their loving care over the past year, especially in the last few weeks.
