Kevin Davis Lewis

Passed on: September 21st, 2015

Kevin Davis Lewis, aged 44, passed peacefully away on Monday, September 21st, in the presence of his loving family and friends. Kevin Jr. is predeceased by his mother Margaret (Peggy), and brothers Chad and baby Lewis. Leaving to mourn are his father Kevin Sr., brother Jonathan (Jordan), aunts Patricia (Harry) Hamlyn, Elaine (Craig, deceased) Dobbin, Maureen (Cyril) Beaton, Godmother Sadie (Ray) O'Brien and uncles Terry (Roberta) Keough, Eugene (Bride) Lewis and Dave (Elizabeth) Lewis, as well as his loving cousins, other family members and friends. As a youth in Labrador City, Kevin was an enthusiastic downhill skier, hockey and badminton player. The Lewis family moved to St. John's in August of 1988 where Kevin attended high school at Gonzaga High, then returned to Labrador City to graduate with his old classmates and friends. Kevin's health difficulties became apparent in 1993 and he was subsequently diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and received the precious gift of a double lung transplant in 1998. IPF had already claimed the lives of his uncle Bill Davis in 1986, his mother Peggy in 1991, and his younger brother Chad would lose his IPF battle in 2002. Once he had recovered from his transplant, Kevin Jr. attended college in St. John's and worked as an IT Support Analyst Specialist first in Halifax and, more recently, at home in St. John's. In recent years Kevin has taken up golf and loved an evening of trouting with his father and friends. He enjoyed annual snowmobile trips with his cousins to the interior of the island, salmon fishing trips to Labrador with Aunt Elaine and his cousins, and day trips with friends on his motorcycle. Most recently, in August, Kevin was the celebrated and very proud flag-bearer and athlete for the Canadian contingent at the World Transplant Games in Argentina. Kevin Jr. loved life and made the most of every moment he was given. He always had a joke to share and a kind or supportive word for anyone in need. He touched innumerable lives in his shortened life. He will be greatly missed. Resting at Carnell's Funeral home, 329 Freshwater Road on Thursday, September 24th, 2015 and Friday, September 25th, 2015 from 2 - 4 p.m, and 7 - 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X on Saturday, September 26th, at 11 a.m, with inurnment to follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, in Holyrood. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Peggy Lewis Memorial Travel Fund c/o the Lung Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
