HACHEY, RICHARD MICHAEL
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Richard Michael Hachey which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015. Born 1934, in Saint John, he was the son of the late Genevieve Mary (Noel) and Alexander Joseph Hachey.
Richard worked in the Long Shoreman Industry as a Stevadore at the Port of Saint John for over 40 years. He was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus, a member of St. Joachim’s Parish, and a volunteer in many organizations. Richard had a great love for his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved music, food, and jam nights.
Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jean (Cyr) Hachey; sons Richard and Michael (Tiffany Hodge); daughters Jo-Ann Horncastle (Alan), Genevieve MacDougall, Janet Horne, Christine Richard (Dan); brothers Jeremy, Charles, George, Patrick, Gerard, David, Levi, Clovis; sisters Helen, Juliette, Linda, Elizabeth, Geralda, Mary, Sheila; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother Leo and sister Doreen.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Thursday, September 24th from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place from St. Joachim’s Catholic Church on Friday, September 25th at 12 noon followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
Donations in memory of Richard may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
