Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, in the early hours of September 25th, 2015. Mercedes Gillies in her 80th year. Predeceased by her parents Mary and George Gillies; sisters Kathleen, Alice, Bernice and Helen; brother Bill; brothers-in-law Hugh Fardy, David Johnson, and Ray Murphy; sister-in-law Andrea Renouf; niece Ann Fardy; and nephew Ted Johnson. Left to mourn are sisters Bernie Dinn (Jerome), Ann Gillies, Mary (Ken) of Toronto; brother Ted (Rosemary) Florida; brothers-in-law Jerome Dinn, Joe Lineberger of Maryland, Ken Murphy of Toronto; special friend Carol Anne Hanlon, and numerous friends, relatives, nieces and nephews in Newfoundland, Canada and the United States; as well as Cede's much loved little dog Peppe. Mercedes will be resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday, September 26th, 2015 from 7-9 p.m, and Sunday, September 27th, 2015 from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Mary Queen of Peace Church, on Monday, September 28th, 2015 at 12 p.m. Cremation will take place, and a graveside committal will take place on Tuesday, September 29th, 2015 at 2 p.m, in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. The family would like to thank the St. Patrick's Mercy Home staff for all their kindness and special care given to Cede during her time there. Flowers will gratefully be accepted, as will donations in Cede's memory to Rainbow Riders, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
