Prominent Kentville Businessman Passes Away
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our dear father, Douglas Henry Woodworth, 87, at home surrounded by his family. Born in Windsor, Nova Scotia on July 11, 1928, son of the late Henry Allen and Annie Laura (Lemon) Woodworth. The last surviving member of his immediate family. Predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruby Leona (Bennett Brown), formerly of Glenmont; brothers, William, John, Jasper; daughter-in-law, Connie Woodworth. Survived by daughters, Carol Madden (Dimock Myles), Coldbrook; Brenda Woodworth, Canning; Leona Millett (Craig), Coldbrook; Mary Domingue (Danny), Alberta; Joyce Veilleux (Pastor Mario), Quebec; sons, Fred (Brennie), Kentville; Paul (Cheryl), Ontario; George (Angela), Coldbrook; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Woodworth; sisters-in-law, Jean and Lottie Woodworth; girlfriend, Bessie Fraser, Berwick; 33 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to devoted caregivers, Arlene, Kelly (with her daughter, Crysti) and Linda. Established a family owned business, D.H. Woodworth and Sons and founded Woodworth Roofing Contractors Ltd. and also Citadel Roofing, Halifax. He was a Past President of the Roofing Contractors Association of Nova Scotia and an active member of both the Roofing Contractors Association of Canada and the National Roofing Contractors Association of USA. He was co-founder of a Roofing Course at NSCC. Former member of the Travellers Club, Kentville and the Annapolis Valley Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association, as well as an honorary member of the Valley Shifters Motorcycle Club. Dad was a hard worker and great provider, the heart of our family. His love of people and generosity was visible to all who knew him. His passions were world travel, music and jams, his Cadillac, cottage and family gatherings. Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service and reception was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, Reverend Sterling Gosman and Reverend Robert Cross officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Children’s Wish Foundation.
