Passed peacefully away at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville NL with his loving family by his side. A special thank you to his brother Mark, for being a pillar of strength throughout this difficult ordeal, as well as being our father's best friend. John passed peacefully away in his 82nd year on Monday, September 28th 2015. Devoted husband for 55 years to Margaret (Gallant), proud father of Tim (Lynn), Janet, Brenda (Paul), Donna and special buddy Craig. Proud grandfather of Dawn Marie, Stephanie, Angela, Timothy, Derek, Robert, Krista, Stephen and Matthew. Great-grandfather of MacKenzie, Logan, Talon, Brody, Alyssa, Paige and Myles. Predeceased by his father John Edward Sr. and his mother Johanna, sisters: Dorothy Pauline, Stella, and Carmella, brothers: Mike and Richard. Survived by brothers Mark (Julia) and Ted (Sheila), sisters Mary, Martha, Genevieve (John) and their families, brother-in-law to the late Earl Gallant, late Eloyd (Nina), late Alvin (Rita), Joseph, Bridget (Late Bernard), Jean (Cliff), Genny (Peter), and families. John was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Regiment from 1956-1959. A long time employee of Churchill Falls Labrador Corporation, retiring in 1989, where he and Marg developed many life long friendships. John enjoyed his retirement years as an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener with an obsession for cutting firewood. He was well known for his sense of humor, storytelling, cooking and generous nature. He was a past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 35 and a proud member for 43 years. The family will be receiving friends at Russell's Funeral Home on Wednesday September 30th from 7-9 pm and Thursday October 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with funeral services taking place on Friday October 2nd at 10 am from St. Stephen's Parish on West Street with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery on the Hansen Highway. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
