Capt. Patrick Miller

Born: December 1st, 1928

Passed on: September 28th, 2015

Captain Patrick Miller docked at his final port of call on Monday, September 28th, 2015, just a few months short of his 87th birthday. Dad lived everyday to the fullest. Being the youngest son of eleven children raised on Fogo Island he was not afraid of work. As a young boy he looked forward to spending his summers fishing on the Labrador with his father, Captain Paddy Miller. Second generation in the Marine Industry, he forged his way to always new and unique projects. He was known throughout his life as an honest businessman where a handshake meant more to him than a paper contract , he believed "a man was as good as his word". From sailing schooners of salt fish and rum, seal hunting, moving various cargoes from port to port and being the founder of the ferry service to Fogo Island, he had a sparkle in his eye for the sea and adventure. Pat is predeceased by his life partner and mother of his children Margaret (O'Brien), also his son-in-law and great friend Patrick (Paddy) Penton. He leaves to celebrate his life, wife Leona, whom he adored. His devoted children Agnes Penton, Anne and Dan Hornik, Pat and Sandi Miller, and Peggy and Oisin McMahon. His cherished grandchildren who completed his life and put new wind in his sails Claire and Sarah, Tabatha, Alexandria, Spencer and Patrick, Kristen and Daniel, Genevieve, Clarissa and Isobel. His one and only great-grandchild Evan Patrick. He will be greatly missed by many special friends, numerous nieces and nephews, especially his caring niece Joan Delaney.
