McKNIGHT, WILLIAM RUNDLE
It is with great sadness the family of William "Bill" McKnight announce his passing on September 30, 2015 after a period of failing health. He was born August 11, 1928, in Newcastle, NB. Bill was a son of the late Graham and Greta McKnight.
Bill is survived and sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, sons Gary (Kathy) of Quispamsis, Wayne (Lori) of Toronto, daughters Lynn of Rothesay and Kim (Peter) Caddell of Halifax as well as his four grandchildren; Nikki and Chris McKnight of Toronto, Andrew and Sarah Caddell of Halifax, all cherished by their grandfather. Bill is also survived by his sister, Bette of Rothesay.
Bill spent his working career with G.E. Barbour Company and Barbour Foods. He spent his younger years in the Reserve Navy. He was involved in the publishing of the book "The Fighting 26th" which contains information about his father during WWI for which he was awarded the Military Cross by King George V. Bill founded the "McKnight Collection" with all his father's war time memorabilia in the Harriet Irving Library in Fredericton of which he was very proud. He volunteered with the Canada Trail as well as collecting the history of his local area. He helped with the writing and research for the publication of 3 volumes of the "Family of Samuel and Elizabeth McKnight" book, recording the history of generations of McKnights and their migration from Scotland to the Miramichi in 1816.
Bill was a devoted family man and animal lover. He loved camping and spent his summers traveling coast to coast in both Canada and the United States with his family. For over twenty years, he, Barb, Lynn and his dog Sandi, spent happy times in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina five months of the year. His home on the Green Road in Rothesay was his own special "mansion" on the hill where he resided 58 years until his recent move to a new home with family but his heart remained on the Green Road.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of 4CN and the Palliative Care Unit for their kindness while Bill was there. Special thanks to Drs. Alan & Karen Rombaut for their support.
Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. At Bill's request there will be no visitation. Following cremation, a private interment will take place at a later date.
