Marie Catherine Mullins

Born In: West Louisbourg (Old Town)

Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 30th, 2015

It is with broken hearts that we regret to announce the passing of our mom, Marie Catherine Mullins of Sydney, age 93, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax.
Born in West Louisbourg (Old Town), she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (White) Kennedy.
She was a proud St. Theresa’s CWL member having received her 50 year pin, and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was an Associate Member of the Congregation of Notre Dame for over 30 years and had a special devotion to St. Marguerite Bourgeois.
Mom managed the vestments and altar cloths for St. Theresa’s Church for over 16 years. She also handmade liturgical vestments (chasubles) for several newly ordained priests. She’s been known to use her expert sewing and knitting skills to make and fix just about anything, even keeping her loved ones warm with mitts, scarves and hats in the winter.
Mom befriended all she met. She truly cared about people and helped many with her quiet, unassuming way, making everyone feel as though they were the most special. She liked a good game of cards and was always waiting to win the elusive ‘even split'.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Walter) Sawlor, Sydney; sons, John (Bev), Sydney and Wayne (Valerie), Barrington, Ont.; sisters, Agnes MacDougall, St. Peter’s, and Frances MacLean, Detroit; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, John William (1999); sister, Theresa (Alvin) White; brothers, Edward (Betty), Garfield (Lucy) (Winnie) and brothers-in-law, Leo MacDougall and Donald MacLean.
Visitation for Marie will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5th at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Theresa’s Church. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Alphonsus Stone Church Restoration Society in New Victoria, or charity of choice. Also, we would like to request that a good deed be done in mom's memory.
